History Nugget
A large Californian power substation is located at the intersection of the rural roads Patterson Pass and Midway, the Amp Farm. It is operated by PG&E and it is a major intersection on the national electrical grid.
Recently PG&E identified the Amp Farm as one of nine sites in California to be equipped with a battery storage system. The overall state battery storage system will be able to provide ~3,300 megawatts of power, enough for over 1 million homes. All of the sites will use lithium-ion batteries with each having a 4-hour discharge duration.
